Taita Women's day.

The day was specially dedicated to the women and girls in Taita. The whole day was spared to offer a one day training and bonding for all the women and girls.

Basic one day training was given on the role women and girls play in the society. They were trained on the roles and importance of participating in political, social and economical development of Taita and kenya as a whole.

Young women were trained on basic health issues and their importance in the society. Mentoring was also offered on young women and girls. It was a day where the girl child was made aware of the disadvantages of early marriages and school drop out.

Taita Women's day was dedicated to the few Taita women who have beaten the odds to manage to hold various public posts in Kenya. The women who are an inspiration to the Taita women.

 

The Young Educationist day

This day was dedicated to the young girls in schools and colleges. It was a day to teach young girls on importance of education and training. It was also a day to encourage the young girls who had dropped out of school to go back and gain education. The main facilitators were women and young girls who have made it using education. This day was used to mentor and encourage, especially girls in both primary and secondary schools.

Information Technology was the main topic of discussion. The girls were encouraged to embrace IT as their daily tool and take advantage of IT to learn and interact with women and young girls all over the world.

Girls who had shown talent in IT were honoured. Many girls came up with small skits and poems aimed at encouraging each other.

Girls from many schools in Taita participated in this day.

 

The House Wife's Day

 

This day was dedicated to the majority of women in Taita. The main percentage of women in Taita are house wives. many of who dropped out of school or had no funds to persue their education. Some were forced to early marriages due to pregnancies or poverty.

Some did have skills and education but their husbands insisted on them being at home and raising kids. It was a day to mentor and offer basic traning on how they could earn their own income independently. Women were encuraged to participate in politics and economic development in the region.

Awards were given to the most hard working house wives.

 

On going activities

The camp

The camp is our base where we keep young girls and young women for a few weeks during the holidays. Here there are various activities that take place. Apart from the basic mentoring, here we offer basic IT tranings. We offer skills to women that they could use to gain employment or income of their own. We train women on basic web design and development skills, secretarial among others.

 

Future Activities

The Politician's Day

We encourage women politicians to come together to share and encourage one another. Here women will be able to discuss the problems they encounter when they vie for different political seats in the country. The role of the women politician is stated here and how they can counter the discrimination they face in the country.

Strategies will be laid on how to encourage more women to come forward and participate in politics and how important their participation is. Here the main strategies on the way forward for the women politician will be laid.

 

The Business Woman's Day

This day is dedicated to the business women in Kenya. It's main aim is to bring together all business women in the country to network. This day will also act as a traning ground on the women and young girls who have plans to get into the business world. It's main aim is to offer a networking venue and mentoring ground. It is aimed to recognise the women who have beaten the odds and made in big in the business world as well as to inspire other women to take a step towards the business world.

 

The IT -and- Women's Day

This day is aimed to educate women and girls on the importance of embracing IT in their daily lives. This day is dedicated to the women in Kenya who have used IT and used it positively to influence their daily life and even provide them with income. This day is dedicated to showing women and young girls ways to go and where to find help when they need to know more on how IT can transform their lives. This day will offer a one day basic IT training to women and young girls.
